Mackay

Mackay Volunteer Area Committee

Mackay is known as the sugar capital of Australia.  Mackay has tropical weather with 31 beaches within comfortable driving distance. We have the Whitsundays only 1-2 hours drive away which is a very popular getaway spot.  The tourists love the Whitsundays so there is always plenty to do such as fishing, snorkeling, sailing, bush walks and boat tours.

More than likely, people move to Mackay for work prospects, as we have 34 operational mines which result in 83% of Queensland’s coal production.

Mackay is an ever growing city to accommodate the fast growing population, with new Shopping Centres under construction and new housing estates always being developed.
