Protecting Our Parks & Nature Spaces: A Call to Local Legends

Protecting our parks is about more than just preserving their beauty—it’s about fostering a sense of pride, ownership, and responsibility for our shared community spaces.

20.03.2025 Local Legends

Brisbane is home to some of Australia’s most beautiful parks and nature spaces. These green gems are essential to Brisbane’s charm and lifestyle providing places to gather with loved ones, connect with nature, and enjoy the outdoors. However, they face threats which can harm the environment and diminish the safety and enjoyment of these spaces for everyone.  This is where Brisbane’s Local Legends step up, playing a vital role in safeguarding these treasured areas.

How You Can Help

Becoming a Local Legend doesn’t take much—just a keen eye and a willingness to take action:

  • Keep an eye out for illegal activity: Whether it’s graffiti, illegal dumping, damage to playground equipment, or suspicious behaviour, your vigilance can make a big difference. Report any concerns immediately to the police or council where appropriate. If the incident has already occurred or is not urgent, and you prefer to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers QLD to provide a tip about any crimes you’re aware of.
  • Report wildlife crime: If you witness or know of anyone taking animals from green spaces, it could be a sign of wildlife crime. Such activities often involve removing animals from the wild for breeding or selling. Signs of wildlife crime may include:
    • People seen taking animals from their natural habitats,
    • Frequent comings and goings from a residence with animal crates,
    • Friends or family members with a large number of native, or rare animals without a clear explanation of their origin.
  • Crimes against animals can be reported to the RSPCA on 1300 ANIMAL. If it’s not urgent, and you prefer to remain anonymous, you can report to Crime Stoppers QLD.
  • Share the message: Encourage friends and family to respect our green spaces too by reporting concerns and keeping our parks beautiful.

Together, We’re Stronger

By working together, we can protect Brisbane’s parks and nature spaces from harm. Every small action, whether it’s picking up litter, keeping watch, or reporting suspicious activity, makes a big difference.

So, to all the Local Legends out there—thank you for being the eyes and ears of our community. Together, let’s keep Brisbane’s parks and nature spaces thriving and safe for everyone to enjoy.

How to Report Suspicious Activity

If something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts. By reporting suspicious activities, you provide valuable information that helps law enforcement prevent and solve crimes. Even small details can be the missing piece in a larger puzzle.

Your actions can prevent crimes, protect your neighbours, and contribute to the safety of Brisbane. Remember, being a Local Legend isn’t just about what you see, but what you do with that information. It’s your Brisbane, your call. Together, we can create a safer city for everyone.
